back (hair)

The back of the head is worked in the

same way as the front, omitting the last

round.

In hair colour

1-13 as for front of head (above)

Do not fasten off. Leave working loop on

hook and continue on to assemble head.

head assembly

Continue in hair colour. Place front and

back head pieces together (wrong-sides

facing). Insert hook into next st on back

piece and then into a corresponding st on

front piece. Work a sc to join. Make

another 38 sc around, working through

both front and back head pieces

Change to skin colour. Continue working

sc around the head, stuffing firmly before

closing the rnd with a sl st.

Fasten off and weave in yarn ends.

Hair;

fringe

Make a half circle, in hair colour. Work

in rows (ch 2 and ch 3 count as stitches).

1 MC, ch 3, 6 dc into MC, tighten MC but

do not join rnd [7]

2 ch 3, turn, dc into same st, dc-inc x 6,

working last dc-inc into top of ch 3 [14]

Fasten off, leaving an extra long yarn tail.

Position fringe on front of head, aligned

with the section of the joining rnd of sc

worked in hair colour. Gently pull the

fringe into position, securing with dressmaking pins as you go.

Using a tapestry needle, sew fringe in

place, working into the row ends and

securing to the joining rnd of sc on the

head, and across the final row of the

fringe. Add extra strands of hair to the part

line, if desired.

bun

Make 2 half circles, in hair colour.

Work in rows (ch 3 counts as a stitch).

1 MC, ch 3, 9 dc into MC, tighten MC but

do not join rnd [10]

2 ch 3, turn, dc into same st, (dc, dc-inc)

x 4, dc into top of ch 3 [15]

Fasten off, leaving an extra long yarn tail

on one of the 2 half circles (weave in other

yarn end). Using a tapestry needle, sew

half circles together, working through the

tops of the sts and leaving the base open.

Stuff bun lightly and sew to top of head,

aligned with MC of fringe.

hair piece

In light blue, ch 10. Work in rows.

1 start in 2nd ch from hook, 9 sc back

down ch, ch 1, turn [9]

2 2-dc-cl in 1st st, sl st into next, 2-dc-cl,

sl st, (2-dc-cl) x 3 in same st, sl st, 2-dc-cl,

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew hair

piece to the front of the bun.

Face

Using black embroidery floss,

embroider mouth on face, centred, 3 to 4

sts wide and between rnds 9 and 10. Add

small lips in pink. Embroider eyes in black

either side of the mouth. Eye arc should be

roughly 5 to 6 rnds wide and 2 to 3 sts tall

The legs and body are worked in one

piece, from the feet up.

At the end of rnd 7, ch 1 and turn. We

now work in rows to create a flap.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use yarn tail

to secure the flap to the front of the

satchel (or add a tiny button if you’re

feeling extra crafty!) and make a shoulder

strap, approximately 16 cm long in length.

Secure and weave in yarn ends. Embroider

white trim on satchel flap.

wings

Make 2, in light blue. For each wing, we

first make 3 wing tips which are then

joined.

For 1st and 2nd wing tips, sl st into next st

and fasten off. For 3rd wing tip, sl st into

next but do not fasten off. Leave working

6 join 3rd wing tip to 2nd by working a sc

directly into next st on 2nd wing tip (the st

into which we made the sl st), make

another 3 sc. Join to 1st wing tip by

working a sc directly into next st on 1st

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Wings

do not need to be stuffed. Flatten and sew

wings to the back of the body.

final assembly

Use a tapestry needle and yarn tail from

body to sew the body to the head, working

through all 18 sts around neck opening.

Secure to the head at least 2 rnds deep on

both front and back sections of the head.

Add extra stuffing to neck before finishing.
