Materials:

Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in red, white, and blue as well as a skin tone and hair color
of your choice. Yarn colors used for the dolls pictured are: Big Twist Soft in cream,
Vanna’s Choice in Colonial blue, Red Heart Super Saver in Cafe and Hobby Lobby “I
love this yarn” in red, white and black.
Hook: 3.75 mm crochet hook
Notions: 12mm safety eyes, small red and white star buttons, thin white and red ribbon,
stuffing, tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

Sc- single crochet
Hdc- half double crochet
Dc- double crochet
Tr- treble crochet
Dec- decrease
St- stitch
Sl st- slip stitch
Sk- skip
Ch- chain
R- round

Notes:

The doll is worked from feet to head. The only body parts you will be required to sew on
are the arms and hair.
Do not join at the end of each round (except for the skirt). You will work in a continuous
spiral. Place your stitch marker in the first stitch of each round to keep your place.

Legs:

Starting with blue for the shoe/foot
R1: 6 sc into magic ring
R2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (18 sts)
R4: Working in the back loops- Sc around (18 sts)
R5: Sc 6, dec 3, sc 6 (15 sts)
R6: Sc 5, dec 1, sc 1, dec 1, sc 5 (13 sts)
Switch to white for the sock
R7: Working in the back loops- Sc 3, dec 3, sc 4 (10 sts)
R8-9: Sc around (10 sts)
Switch to skin tone to work the rest of the leg
R10: Working in the back loops- Sc around (10 sts)
R11-16: Sc around (10 sts)
Stuff the leg most of the way full, leaving the very top empty so you have room to start
working the body.
Finishing touches on the sock: Starting at the back of the foot, insert your hook into a
stitch at the top of the sock as shown below. Sl st into each st around. This will create
more texture around the top of the sock.

Attach a small red star button on the side of each shoe.
Weave in all ends of the legs before beginning the body

Body:

Continuing with skin tone
Sl st the legs together by inserting your hook through the center inner stitch of both legs
(pictured below)

R1: Ch 1, sc in the same st as join and in each st around. Be sure to sc into the stitches
you joined the legs at. You will sc into them on both sides. You should have 23 stitches
total. (it might be helpful to mark this round so you know where the body began)
R2: Sc around (23 sts)
R3: Sc 6, dec 1, sc 6, dec 1, sc 7 (21 sts)
R4: (Sc 5, dec 1) Repeat (18 sts)
Switch to red for the shirt
R5-7: Sc around (18 sts)
R8: (Sc 4, dec 1) Repeat (15 sts)
R9-11: Sc around (15 sts)
R12: (Sc 3, dec 1) Repeat (12 sts)
Switch to skin tone to begin the neck/head
R13: Working in the back loops- Sc around (12 sts)
R14: Sc around (12 sts)
R15: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (18 sts)
R16: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (24 sts)
R17: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (30 sts)

At this point, the head will look like it’ll be too big. Keep going, it’s not!
R21: Sc around (48 sts)
R22: (Sc 4, dec 1) Repeat (40 sts)

Begin stuffing the head and place the eyes between rounds 19 and 20 about 7 sts
apart.

Finish stuffing the head firmly. Cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Weave the tail through
the stitches and sinch the hole closed. Next, add texture to the top of the red shirt the
same way you added texture to the socks.

Skirt

With Blue
With the doll upside down, insert your hook through one of the red stitches in the back
and sl st all the way around the waist. You should have 19 sl sts. Join to first sl st and ch
1

R1: Sc in the back loop of each sl st around. Join to first sc (19 sts)
R2-3: Ch 2, dc in same st as join and in each st around. Join to first dc. (19 sts)
R4: Ch 2, 5 Hdc in first st, ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next st, ch 1, sk next st, *6 Hdc in next
st, ch 1, sk next st, sl st in next st, ch 1, sk next st. Repeat from *. Join to ch 2 space. (5
Hdc clusters)
Cut yarn weave in ends.
Attach your three little stars to the shirt.

Arms

Starting with the skin tone
R1: 8 sc into magic loop
R2-10: Sc around (8 sts)
Switch to red yarn for the sleeve
R11-13: Sc around (8 sts)
Stuff the arm about ⅓ full. Sc across the top to close it. Cut the yarn leaving a long tail
for sewing. Sew the arms on just under the collar of the shirt.

Hair

R1: Sc 6 into magic ring
R2: 2 sc in each st around (12 sts)
R3: (Sc 1, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (18 sts)
R4: (Sc 2, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (24 sts)
R5: (Sc 3, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (30 sts)
R6: (Sc 4, 2 sc in next st) Repeat (36 sts)
R7-15: Sc around (36 sts)
R16: Sc, 2 Hdc, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, sc, 2 sl sts, sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc, tr, 2 dc, 2 hdc, sc, sl st.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew onto the head so that the front hairline sits
just above the eyes.

Curls (make 6):
Ch 13
2 sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (24 sts)
Cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing
Sew three curls in a cluster on each side of the head. Tie white and red ribbon in a bow
around the curls to create piggy tails.
